Set in an urban development, the Victorian circular tower was constructed in the mid 1850s. It is thought to have been used as a hunting lodge or staff cottage to the manor house.

We were approached to design an extension that would not harm the character and setting of this interesting building. The tower has a poorly designed single-storey extension that was added in the mid 1970s.

The proposals aspire to a quality of design and execution which may be valued now and in the future, and that will not harm the heritage value of the original tower. The glass link provides a delicate connection from the existing to the new extension. It has been designed to be completely reversible in the future.

The new extension creates a journey from the tower to reveal the open kitchen and framed views across the river.
